Collective call for support for the conclusions of the Notat-Senard Report on Enterprise and the General Interest

THE REPORT NOTED SENARD DEFINES THE MODERN BASIS FOR CORPORATE GOVERNANCE WHICH FINALLY ENSHRINES ITS DUAL MISSION, ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL.

FRENCH STAKEHOLDERS COMMITTED TO CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY ARE ASKING THAT THE CONCLUSIONS OF THE REPORT BE INCLUDED IN THE LAW AND THE GOVERNANCE PRACTICE OF OUR COMPANIES.

The Notat Senard report is an opportunity not to be missed to develop the founding texts of the civil pact around the company which can no longer be reduced to its economic dimension and which must reflect the collective project it embodies at the heart of the Company. The actors co-signatories to this call, organizations and committed personalities, consider that the conclusions of the Notat Senard Report provide the basis for a necessary evolution of the business idea in France and Europe whose old definitions no longer meet the needs of openness and commitment expected by the Company and which are already practiced by many companies; These recommendations call for a legislative translation and their appropriation by the widest possible economic community, especially on the part of governance.

By placing “the company’s own interest” beyond that of the shareholders, by now integrating the consideration of social and environmental issues by the Governance, by opening the possibility of establishing a “raison d'être” associating social utility with the creation of economic value, significantly expanding the representation of employee directors and paving the way for “mission-oriented companies”, the report Notat Senard brings recognition of the company at the heart of the Company, which advances the dynamics of a market economy in the direction of a more sustainable world.

This report complements the fundamental work undertaken around “sustainable finance”, supported by a growing number of investors and the CSR policies of pioneering groups that have seized this model for several years; it echoes the collective expectations of employees, customers, suppliers and new generations in search of meaning and values better shared in companies. The report calls for corporate governance to play its full role in the sustainability of projects and the functioning of companies, taking into account the interests of shareholders and employees as constitutive parties and consulting other stakeholders through committees monitored by the Boards. The report creates the opportunity to see the development in France of a community of mission companies that are a lever of societal innovation and performance. The business idea must be valued and legitimated and CSR practices must be credible, to make global performance a reference in the market economy and to inspire a European model that responds to the criticisms of current excesses and that opens a way for mutual enrichment, between economic interests and common issues.

The persons and organisations who have signed the Report each propose to work on the pedagogy of this report, on its implementation in companies and on the guidelines for a long-term economy.
